New home construction has been booming in the Saskatoon neighbourhoods of Stonebridge, Willowgrove, Rosewood and Hampton Village, and in towns and villages around the city.
According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, homebuilders poured foundations for 77 condo units, and 75 single detached homes in the Saskatoon Census Metropolitan area in March, an increase from 32 each in March of 2009.
In addition to the new starts, homebuilders are working on hundreds of other new homes and several new condo developments which have been started in 2010.
CMHC says March was the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year increases in single starts by Saskatoon builders.
Saskatchewan's smaller markets area los recording healthy gains in new home starts. In the province's smaller cities, every centre except Moose Jaw saw year-over-year increases in total housing starts in the first quarter.
In Saskatoon, the entire neighbourhood of Willowgrove is now nearing completion, the neighbourhoods of Stonebridge and Hampton Village have seen dramatic growth and change in the past few months, and the new subdivision of Rosewood has sprung up seemingly overnight with dozens of new homes already completed, and many others under construction.
In nearby communities including Warman and Martensville, new neighbourhoods and developments are also taking shape with many new homes now completed and ready for immediate possession, and many others slated for completion later this spring and summer.
With Saskatchewan's population increasing at a rate we haven't seen for many decades, you can expect to see the construction boom in the Saskatoon area continue for the foreseeable future.
