It looks like all those new houses and condos that are being built in the Saskatoon Area will be full before you know it, if Statistics Canada’s predictions about Saskatchewan’s population are correct.
Stats Canada says we can expect the province’s population to grow by as much as 268,000 in the next 25 years – leaving us with a potential population of 1,298,000 people by the year 2036!
The last time Stats Canada did a study like this, in 2005, it predicted that Saskatchewan’s population would actually decline in the next 25 years, but a number of things have changed since then.
Stats Canada says there has been a fertility rate increase across the country, and increased immigration, and Saskatchewan is also benefitting from a change in inter-provincial migration patterns. Since 2006, more people have been coming to Saskatchewan than have been leaving the province for other Canadian destinations.
The Stats Canada predictions are great news for the already booming Saskatchewan housing market. It’s amazing how fast the Saskatoon area in particular has grown in the past 4 or 5 years, and it’s great to see that the growth will likely continue.
